The weekly two-gift rule
Two gifts. That is the whole budget. Birthdays still sit inside it. If Villain’s birthday lands on the same week you wanted to bribe Hult for keys, you pick one morning. Festival weeks in events will empty houses and override shop hours; they do not add a third slot. Sleep in a town bed and the game says no — your bed is the farm bed. Treaty Port hops do not spend the clock, but they also do not reset the gift counter.
Neutral cooked food is the safe default when Gift Finder is blank. +20 liking is how strangers become “liked” without a loved list. Plus dishes are different items — a plus pie can love where the base pie only likes, or the other way around. Check the tool. Do not cook Cod at 170 gold into a worse gift than a vendor sale at Doloc Dock.
Loved, liked, hated
Level 2 is loved. Level 1 is liked. Negative reactions are hated; hated gifts can be −2. A blank loved list on the villager table does not mean “give anything.” It means none were recorded — open Gift Finder. Open Gift Finder, pick the villager, and read the three columns. Calendar, festivals, and who is actually home
NPC shop hours are often 8–22, but launch videos still showed closed doors at dawn. Wait. Public chests do not keep hours. Long Night Festival week in month 4 will empty houses.
